Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Council’s plans for the proposed Leisure and Learning facility?
In 2019 we identified that a redeveloped Leisure Centre on the Station Sports site would cost in the region of £5m and this is something the Council has been keen to pursue. The intention was to fund this through a mixture of Council funding and partner/grant funding.
Mablethorpe’s subsequent inclusion in the Towns Fund initiative has allowed for a more ambitious vision for a replacement facility to be brought forward, which incorporates a range of leisure facilities, including a 25m swimming pool, and provides a new social and educational facility for the town.
The proposed redevelopment would require further funding (on top of the £5m) and this is why it is one of many projects likely to be considered through the Towns Fund.
Working in partnership with Magna Vitae, and leading leisure development specialist, Alliance Leisure, we are in the process of carrying out a comprehensive feasibility study to help inform the investment plan for the new centre. We need to make sure any new provision is able to meet the needs of local people, has the right mix of facilities of the right size and is affordable. The facilities and services offered must be able to generate enough income to sustain the centre in the future.

What is the Towns Fund?
On September 6, 2019, the Government invited 101 places to develop proposals for a Town Deal, as part of the £3.6 billion Towns Fund. Under this call, both Skegness and Mablethorpe were invited to submit ‘investment plans’ up to the value of £25m per town.
Town Deals have been established to counter the multiple socio-economic challenges experienced by many provincial settlements and the main objective of the fund is to drive sustainable economic growth through investment in connectivity, land use, urban regeneration, economic and cultural assets, skills, and enterprise infrastructure.
